Biography Gerasimos Alivizatos

Dr. Alivizatos is an Associate Professor in the Second Department of Urology, Sismanoglio Hospital, at the Medical School of Kapodistriakon University in Athens, Greece.

In 1979 he graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiology and in 1984 he completed his medical studies in the Medical School of Kapodistriakon University in Athens.

He completed his urological training in the University Urological Department in Laiko Hospital in Athens (Prof. C. Dimopoulos) in 1992 and in the same year he received his Doctoral Degree from Athens Medical School and became a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU).

With a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation he then had the opportunity to spend one year as a Fellow in the Urological Department of Nijmegen University (Prof. F. Debruyne). In 1994 he became a Lecturer in the Second University Urological Department, in Sismanoglio Hospital, a position he holds until today as an Associate Professor. 
 
His main interests are prostatic diseases, urological oncology and lithiasis. He is an author and co-author of 54 peer reviewed publications and in 7 chapters in various books.

His international activities include:  Chairman of the examination committee of European Board of Urology (EBU), Board member of European Society of Uro-Technology (ESUT), Member of the EAU – BPH guidelines committee (1999-2006), Member of the European School of Urology (ESU), Member of the Editorial Board of European Urology, and Reviewer in various Urological Journals.
